Dr.Sumit Kumar Singh

SUMIT KUMAR SINGH (BORN ON 24 MARCH 1996) is an Indian skater and athlete from Delhi. He started skating at the age of seven. He was trained by his father Mr. Bhrigunath Singh and mother Mrs. Usha Singh. His father was posted in Sikkim at the time of his learning days but still he was instructing him over the phone. His mother who is not just his inspiration but everyone’s inspiration, diligently made him follow those Instructions.

Sumit used to practice at the CPWD Ground in R.K.Puram, sec-9 . He used to start his practice early in the morning from 4:30 to 7.00 and again in the evening everyday as he was committed and persistent towards sports. His devotion and zeal made him won several national titles. Sumit participated in his first ever Nationals in the year 2003.

He won his first medal when he was in third standard and that was the never ending moment as he kept on participating in the tournaments each and every year. In 2006 ,he qualified the nationals and won his first medal. Again in 2007, he participated in the tournament and after putting so much of hard work in 200 ,he finally won 2 silver and 1 bronze medal.

In 2010 also, he participated in the tournament. On 26th January 2018 , he took part in his first international world record in free skating then second international world record in skipping on 27th May 2018 with the motto “MERA HUNAR MERI PEHCHAAN”. As far as his educational qualification is concerned, He has completed his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya School and graduation from Shree Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal ,Amravati, Maharashtra where he has learned distinctive and diverse games and sports.

He has even learnt the techniques, rules and regulations of the sports, and also how to become a virtuous coach. As Hima Das quotes “I am not running after gold medals; I am running after time. And once I get that, gold medals will run after me.” Likewise Sumit also believes in passion and hard work. He admires Hima Das for her affection and dedication towards sports. He always dreamt of becoming like her.

He considered her one of candid and true sportsperson. Sumit’s desire was to represent India in Olympics and achieve medals but skating was not a part of Olympics and Asian Commonwealth Games so he could not pursue his career in skating. But his love for sports can never end so he thought of starting his own Sports academy, an academy where he can train poverty stricken and destitute children, who are talented and passionate for the sports and also the ones who are as dedicated as him.

He shared his aim and dream of opening sports academy with his uncle Mr. Balraj Singh. His uncle saw a spark in his eyes. He loved his idea and motto behind this academy. He supported his decision and encouraged him to go further. Meanwhile in 2015 he met Shivam Singh who was not from sports background but a graduate from Delhi University with proficiency in computers.

They were just good friend at that time but gradually Shivam became his close buddy. In 2017 ,Sumit shared his dream with him. He got too emotional and ardent that he decided to pursue this idea and dream. In the same year DCSE also got its registration. He is pursuing B.Ped.

Both wanted to make this dream come true. Together, they went ahead with their dream project and named it “DCSE (Delhi Council Sports of Education)”. DCSE participated in senior National organisation by ICSE in Bhopal in January 2018 where Football and kabbadi team participated. Football team stood first and Kabaddi team at second position. But it was just the beginning of the glory and success. DCSE again participated in Udaipur open National Game conducted by RCSE in January 2019.

To everyone’s surprise, football and kabaddi team won the championship trophy. Their 11 players from both the team, Kabaddi and football were selected for Indo -Nepal international Pacific games. It was the moment for success and celebration. This was Sumit’s first step towards his dream project.

Being successful means the achievement of desired visions and planned goals. DCSE did not stop to participating and this time DCSE again participated in 3rd ICSE open National in Jaipur in January 2020 in which Delhi participated in football, kabaddi and volleyball.

They achieved first positions in kabadi, and second position in football and volleyball. The person who managed all this, from selection to trials and arrangements of national camps was none other then Shivam Kumar Singh who is an integral part of DCSE.

He took everything on his shoulders. He proved that we must act our passion before we can feel it. He took a team of 30 players in all the tournaments. Every player was personally taken care by him and none of the player was injured.

It shows that his love for sports and DCSE is unconditional. Shivam takes every responsibility with happiness and great enthusiasm. He can do anything for DCSE and make the academy , one of the best academy as he is passionate, focused and supportive.

Our country represented in International Pacific Sports Games held in Nepal. There were 12 players from DCSE- 8 players in football and 4 players in kabaddi who represented India. Again they won Gold medal in both the games. This was another accomplishment for DCSE.

Our players believe that winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. Sumit believes “Teamwork is the ability to work together towards a common vision. “... Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." Let us introduce other important and integral members in DCSE.

One of the important members is Shweta Singh in his team who is not just an encouragement and emotional support but a paramount in DCSE family. She is a helping hand and good soul who always takes stand for him. She is a true asset for DCSE. Her advices and guidance has always been fruitful.

Teamwork begins by building trust and that’s what Manish Singh is, who plays a very principal role for building a sports academy. His positive outlook and guidance makes him different and unique. DCSE is now not just Sumit’s dream; it’s his dream as well.

Vikas Singh, the senior council of Delhi High Court and Chief Legal Advisor of the Federation who is one of most responsible member to the team. He takes care of all the paper work and legal work for the academy. He is not just an advisor but an initial and power force for DCSE. For Sumit, each and every member and player in DCSE is important and significant. He enjoys each and every minute and transforms a stressful environment into relaxed one. He feels that if a man cannot understand the beauty of life, it is probably because life never understood the beauty in him.” “Do not let your difficulties fill you with anxiety; after all it is only in the darkest nights that stars shine more brightly.”

Sumit has been the role model and mentor for so many players. Even after realizing that he cannot pursue his career in skating at the Olympics, he decided to become the physical education teacher in school so that he can guide and train the students for the national games. But something was still missing as he was not convinced with his job only. He always wanted to build the same passion in children for Olympics and Commonwealth games which he has. He has the leadership skills. He believes that “Leadership is more about responsibility than ability!” He never stopped himself in doing hard work. He was so eager to open the academy in which he can train and give opportunities .
